Notification: VCS 3356 - Changing Lives via Improved Cooking Initiatives – Philippines
Compliance Details
The project involves distribution of improved cookstoves (ICS) in in domestic households and communities in Philippines. The ICSs disseminated result in reduction in biomass fuel consumption in project households and equivalent GHG emission reductions by virtue of their higher thermal efficiency. Recent performance monitoring yielded following results:
Monitoring Session | Dates | Number of ICS distributed | Stove Utilization Factor (SUF) |
MS1 | 11/02/2023 to 10/02/2024 | 25,465 | 90.32% |
MS2 | 11/02/2024 to 31/12/2024 | 115,144 | 89.97% |
Compliance Details
Risks: The improved cookstoves (ICS) are designed with safety protocols, offering a sustainable and safe alternative to traditional cooking, without introducing any risks to the stakeholders.
Costs: ICS are distributed at the zero cost to end users.
Benefits:
– Making ICS affordable to beneficiary by providing free of cost
– Reduced fuel expenses, due to reduction in thermal energy needs.
– Time savings due to reduced cooking time / fuel procurement needs
– Reduced exposure to IAP – Smoke, PM, black soot
– Generation of local employment during ICS distribution, maintenance and monitoring.
The project ICS have been provided against future carbon credits generated from use of the ICS. Thus, the project has a pre-emptive benefit sharing feature with beneficiaries in advance.
The beneficiaries transfer rights on ownership of credits arising out of use of the ICS unconditionally to PP, at the time of ICS distribution via an agreement, thereby ensuring FPIC.
The PP ensures that all relevant national / local laws and regulations on worker’s rights are followed and complied with
The project is registered as VCS project with VERRA. The validation was performed by Carbon Check India Private Limited.
The project is planned to undergo verification site visit by Carbon Check India Private Limited from 25/01/2025 to 28/01/2025
